Digital Marketing Cost in India (2026): Agency Fees, Ad Spend and GST, Channel by Channel

By Rohit GuptaUpdated 16 min read
Digital marketing cost in India 2026 pricing guide cover showing 18% GST on fees, basic packages at ₹10K–₹40K a month and ad management at 10–20% of spend

One agency says ₹15,000 a month. Another says ₹75,000. A marketplace listing offers “SEO & digital marketing” for ₹4,949.

Then you notice none of them mention the cost of the ads.

Digital marketing cost in India is confusing for one simple reason: most quotes mix two different bills together. One goes to the people doing the work. The other goes to Google or Meta. And GST sits on top of both.

Separate them, and the numbers start to make sense.

Quick answer: how much does digital marketing cost in India?

Digital marketing in India typically costs ₹15,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month in agency fees for a small or growing business, plus whatever you spend on ads, plus 18% GST. Published Indian guides put basic packages at about ₹10,000–₹40,000 a month and enterprise programmes at ₹2,50,000–₹5,00,000+.

  • Basic package (startups, small businesses): about ₹10,000–₹40,000/month in fees
  • Growth package: about ₹40,000–₹1,00,000/month
  • Advanced / e-commerce: about ₹1,00,000–₹2,50,000/month
  • Ad spend (paid to Google or Meta): extra, often ₹15,000–₹75,000/month for a local business
  • GST: 18% on agency fees and on Google and Meta ad purchases (as of October 2026)

Ranges are from published Indian price guides, October 2026, not a rate card.

Here’s the thing: “digital marketing” isn’t one service. It’s SEO, ads, social media, content, a website and messaging, each priced differently. So the right question isn’t “what does digital marketing cost?” It’s “what does each piece I need cost, and what am I paying the platforms on top?”

In this guide you’ll get:

  • Monthly costs by business type and by channel, with every range attributed
  • The difference between fees and ad spend, and how GST applies to each
  • The five ways agencies charge, and when each one makes sense
  • A simple digital marketing cost calculator method: work back from the leads you need
  • Red flags, a quote-comparison table and a 30-day checklist for small businesses

One note: this guide is about buying digital marketing services. If you searched for digital marketing course fees, that’s a different question.

How much does digital marketing cost in India per month? The 2026 ranges

Published Indian guides put digital marketing packages at roughly ₹10,000–₹40,000 a month for small businesses, ₹40,000–₹1,00,000 for growing brands, and ₹1,00,000–₹5,00,000+ for e-commerce, competitive and enterprise programmes. These are agency fees; ad spend is extra.

Most guides ranking for this search are short agency pages with uncited tables. (We’re an agency too, so apply the same pinch of salt.) Two of the more detailed ones line up like this:

Business typeNoir & Blanco (July 2026)TA Digiweb (July 2026)What’s usually in it
Small local business / startup₹15,000 – ₹40,000₹10,000 – ₹40,000Limited SEO, basic social posting, monthly report
Growing SME₹40,000 – ₹1,00,000₹40,000 – ₹75,000SEO, social, some paid ads support, analytics
Established / e-commerce₹1,00,000 – ₹2,50,000₹75,000 – ₹1,50,000+Full SEO, PPC management, conversion work
Large brand / enterprise₹2,50,000 – ₹5,00,000+Custom pricingMulti-channel strategy, creative production, dedicated team

Monthly agency fees as published by Noir & Blanco and TA Digiweb, excluding ad spend and GST. upGrowth’s guide (updated September 2026) puts a typical small business at ₹25,000–₹75,000 a month. See sources.

And the bottom of the market? On IndiaMART, “digital marketing services” listings in Surat alone ranged from ₹1,000 to ₹50,000 a month when we checked in October 2026.

So the real range is “a thousand rupees to several lakhs.” Let’s split it up.

Digital marketing charges: agency fees vs ad spend

Your digital marketing bill has two separate costs: the fee you pay an agency or freelancer for their work, and the ad spend you pay Google or Meta for clicks, views and leads. Both usually attract 18% GST, and most quotes show only the first.

  • Fees buy work: strategy, SEO, ad management, design, writing, video, reporting.
  • Ad spend buys reach: it goes to the platform, and the agency doesn’t keep it.

Justwords’ social media pricing guide puts it in one line: “A business paying a ₹40,000 fee and running ₹50,000 of ads has a ₹90,000 monthly investment.” Add 18% GST to both and you’re past ₹1 lakh.

Always ask: “How much of this goes to you, and how much goes to Google or Meta?”

Digital marketing cost in India by channel

By channel, published Indian guides quote about ₹15,000–₹60,000 a month for small-agency SEO, ₹15,000–₹40,000 for small-account Google Ads management, ₹15,000–₹40,000 for basic social media management and ₹999–₹9,999 for a WhatsApp platform plan. Ad spend, shoots and websites are priced separately.

Two things jump out. SEO, social and content are almost all labour, so the fee is the cost. Ads and WhatsApp carry a second, usage-based bill that grows with results.

  • SEO: Ahrefs found 76% of India-based SEOs charge $1,000 or less a month. Our SEO cost guide turns fees into hours of work.
  • Google and Meta ads: upGrowth’s Google Ads guide says Google has “no fixed price tag.” The Google Ads cost guide covers CPC by industry; for Facebook and Instagram, see how Meta ads work.
  • Social and video: original Reels are the biggest price driver in our social media cost breakdown.
  • WhatsApp: 10,000 marketing messages cost ₹8,631 before GST at Meta’s 1 October 2026 India rate. Our WhatsApp API cost guide has the full rate card.

How do digital marketing agencies charge? 5 pricing models

Indian agencies and freelancers charge for digital marketing in five main ways: a monthly retainer, a one-time project fee, a percentage of ad spend, performance or per-lead pricing, and hourly consulting. Many combine two, such as a base retainer plus a percentage of spend.

1. Monthly retainer

A fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope, like every package above. Good for: SEO, social and content. Watch for: vague scope; get deliverables in writing.

2. Per project (one-time)

One fee for a defined job. Digital Dawn’s 2026 guide to Indian freelance rates lists SEO audits at ₹5,000–₹25,000 and Google Ads setup at ₹8,000–₹25,000. Good for: a website, a launch, or a set-up you’ll run yourself.

3. Percentage of ad spend

Usually 10–20% of monthly media spend. upGrowth says this only makes sense above ₹5,00,000 a month in media, and suggests a fixed retainer below that. Hybrids (₹30,000–₹75,000 base plus 5–8% of spend) are common as spend grows. Watch for: a fee that rewards spending more, not better.

4. Performance or per-lead

You pay per result; upGrowth lists ₹200–₹2,000 per qualified lead for social campaigns. Watch for: how “qualified” is defined. Agree it in writing and check leads in your own CRM.

5. Hourly

Expert time for strategy or training. Digital Dawn quotes Indian freelancers from ₹300–₹600 an hour (freshers) to ₹2,500–₹5,000 (experts). On Clutch, 21 of the 29 Indian agencies on the first page listed rates under $50 an hour. Good for: teams that can execute but need direction.

Digital marketing cost calculator: set your budget from the leads you need

To calculate your digital marketing budget, work backwards: decide how many leads you need, multiply by a realistic cost per lead to get ad spend, then add 18% GST on spend, any management fee and 18% GST on that fee.

Ad spend = Leads needed × (Cost per click ÷ Conversion rate)

Where do the inputs come from? For Google, Nico Digital’s 2026 benchmarks (from Keyword Planner data) put a single-city local service at roughly ₹25–₹150 a click with a 3–5% conversion rate. For Meta, upGrowth’s September 2026 estimates put cost per lead at ₹150–₹2,000. Swap in your own numbers as soon as you have them.

Worked example (hypothetical): a physiotherapy clinic in Pune

These inputs are made-up example numbers within the published ranges above, to show the maths. They are not a forecast.

  1. Leads needed: 40 enquiries a month from Google Search.
  2. Cost per lead: ₹60 a click ÷ 4% conversion = ₹1,500 per lead.
  3. Ad spend: 40 × ₹1,500 = ₹60,000.
  4. GST on ads: ₹60,000 × 18% = ₹10,800.
  5. Management fee: say ₹20,000, plus ₹3,600 GST.
  6. Total: ₹94,400 a month, or about ₹2,360 per lead all in.

Too much? Pull one of three levers. Need fewer leads. Lower the cost per click with tighter keywords. Or lift the conversion rate: at 6% instead of 4%, the same 40 leads need ₹40,000 of spend, not ₹60,000.

Then sense-check it. If a patient is worth ₹8,000 and one in four enquiries books, a lead is worth about ₹2,000. At ₹2,360 per lead, this plan loses money until the page or targeting improves. Our ROAS calculator and the guide to what ROAS means help you run that check, and the GST calculator adds the 18%.

How much should a small business budget at each stage?

Budget by stage, not by a round number: first build foundations you own, then test one paid channel with enough spend to learn, then scale only what shows a profitable cost per lead. Published guides put a practical minimum for agency-run marketing at about ₹25,000–₹40,000 a month.

  • Stage 1, foundations (month 1–2): a fast website, a verified Google Business Profile and conversion tracking. Mostly one-time costs. Spend little on ads until tracking works.
  • Stage 2, test one channel (month 2–4): Google Search if people already search for what you sell, Meta if they don’t. upGrowth suggests ₹15,000–₹30,000 a month of Google spend for local services, or ₹2,000–₹10,000 to test Meta.
  • Stage 3, grow (month 4+): add SEO and content alongside ads, since they keep working after spend stops. Noir & Blanco calls ₹25,000–₹40,000 a month a minimum practical budget; upGrowth puts a typical small business at ₹25,000–₹75,000 a month.
  • Stage 4, scale: raise spend only on campaigns with a cost per lead you can afford. upGrowth’s “scaling” Meta budgets run ₹50,000–₹2,00,000 a month.

If your maths says ₹10,000 a month is all you can do, that’s fine. Spend it on stage 1, not on a “full package.”

What’s included in a digital marketing package, and what costs extra?

Most digital marketing packages in India include strategy, a set number of SEO tasks, social posts and a monthly report. Ad spend, GST, photo and video shoots, landing pages, paid tools, influencer fees and website development are usually extra unless the quote says otherwise.

Check every quote for these:

  • Ad spend. Almost never included. Aero Business Solutions’ package page, for example, calls its PPC fee “a management fee on top of the cost of the ad spend.”
  • GST. Usually “+18%.” Mayank Digital Labs’ pricing page says “GST is charged extra at 18% on all plans.” Ask if a price is inclusive or exclusive.
  • Creatives. How many ad designs and Reels a month? Jigsawkraft quotes ₹5,000–₹25,000 per photo shoot and ₹10,000–₹50,000 per video shoot.
  • Landing pages. Who builds them, and are they in the fee?
  • Tools. Scheduling, SEO and email tools are subscriptions. Jigsawkraft lists ₹1,000–₹5,000 a month for scheduling tools alone.
  • Set-up fees. Digital Dawn’s freelance rate guide lists Google Ads set-up at ₹8,000–₹25,000 and email automation set-up at ₹8,000–₹30,000.

Is GST charged on digital marketing and ads in India?

Yes. Digital marketing services such as SEO, SEM and social media management attract 18% GST, and Google and Meta charge 18% GST on ad purchases billed by their Indian entities. GST-registered businesses can usually claim input tax credit with a valid invoice.

  • Agency and freelancer fees: Busy’s GST reference lists SEO, SEM, SMM and content marketing at 18% under SAC 998361. That matches the 9% CGST rate (plus 9% SGST) for “other professional, technical and business services” under Notification 11/2017-Central Tax (Rate).
  • Google Ads: Google India Private Limited charges IGST at 18%, or CGST 9% + SGST 9% for Haryana bill-to addresses. Google also lists TDS on advertising payments at 2%, excluding GST.
  • Meta ads: since 2018, Meta has billed Indian advertisers in INR through its India entity, with transactions “subject to Indian GST.” Online advertising is generally taxed at 18%.
  • WhatsApp messages: Meta’s invoices from Facebook India carry 18% GST, as covered in our WhatsApp API cost guide.
  • Small freelancers: service providers must register for GST above ₹20 lakh turnover (₹10 lakh in special category states), so some don’t charge it.

Quick example: a ₹25,000 fee plus ₹40,000 of ad spend becomes ₹29,500 + ₹47,200 = ₹76,700. Google’s GST page warns that without your GSTIN on file, you “may not be able to claim credit” for tax paid to Google. Add it before you spend, and confirm input tax credit with your CA. (We’re not tax advisors.)

Red flags in cheap digital marketing packages

The biggest red flags in a cheap digital marketing package are guaranteed rankings or leads, ad spend hidden inside the fee, accounts held in the agency’s name, bought followers or bulk backlinks, and reports with no leads or sales in them.

  • “Guaranteed #1 on Google.” Google’s own guide says: “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.”
  • “Ads included” with no split. If you can’t see how much reaches Google or Meta, you can’t judge either number.
  • The agency owns your accounts. Your ad accounts, Google Business Profile, Analytics and Meta Business account should be in your name.
  • Follower and backlink counts as deliverables. “5,000 followers” or “100 backlinks a month” are numbers, not customers.
  • The cold WhatsApp or email. Google warns to “be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that email you out of the blue.”
  • No conversion tracking. Clicks and likes only? You’ll never know your cost per lead.
  • A price that can’t cover the work. A ₹1,000-a-month listing can’t pay for SEO, ads and social. Something isn’t happening.

How to compare digital marketing quotes

Compare digital marketing quotes by putting fees, ad spend, GST and deliverables into one table, line by line. The cheapest quote often leaves out creatives, landing pages or ad management that another quote includes.

Freelancer vs agency vs in-house: which costs less?

A freelancer usually costs least for one or two channels, an agency costs more but brings several skills at once, and an in-house hire makes sense when marketing is central to sales. Salary data puts a digital marketing executive in India at about ₹1.4–₹5.5 lakh a year.

FreelancerAgencyIn-house

Freelancer ranges from Digital Dawn (2026); agency tiers from Noir & Blanco; salaries from AmbitionBox (Digital Marketing Executive, 36.7k salaries) and upGrowth (social media manager). Glassdoor shows ₹5–₹13 lakh base for digital marketing managers, from only 50 salaries.

One hire rarely covers SEO, ads, design and video. Many businesses keep one person in-house and bring in specialists for performance ads or SEO around them.

A 30-day digital marketing checklist for a small business

Before you sign any retainer, spend 30 days getting your accounts, tracking and numbers in place. You’ll get better quotes and waste less money.

  1. Days 1–5: own your accounts. Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics, Google Ads and Meta Business, all in your company’s name.
  2. Days 6–10: know your numbers. What’s a customer worth, and what share of enquiries buy? That sets the cost per lead you can afford.
  3. Days 11–15: fix the basics. A fast mobile page, click-to-call and a WhatsApp button. Our free WhatsApp link generator takes a minute.
  4. Days 16–20: set up tracking. Calls, form fills and WhatsApp clicks counted as conversions, before any ad goes live.
  5. Days 21–25: get three quotes. Fill in the comparison table. Ask each provider to separate fees, ad spend and GST.
  6. Days 26–30: start one test. One channel, one offer, a budget you can hold for a few weeks. Review cost per lead, not likes.

What is the minimum budget to start digital marketing in India?

There’s no official minimum; Google publishes no fixed price for ads. Published guides call ₹25,000–₹40,000 a month a practical minimum for agency-run marketing. With less, spend on foundations like your website, Google Business Profile and tracking first.

Sources and how we researched this

We researched this guide in October 2026. We read the pricing pages currently ranking in India for “digital marketing cost in India,” compared their ranges with independent sources (Clutch, IndiaMART, salary sites), and checked GST and platform rules against Google, Meta and tax references. Channel figures already researched in our own cost guides are reused from them. Third-party ranges are those publishers’ estimates, not audited market data. We don’t quote our own prices.

The bottom line

Digital marketing cost in India runs from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs a month. Most small businesses land somewhere between ₹15,000 and ₹75,000 in fees, plus ad spend, plus 18% GST.

But the fee isn’t the number that matters. Cost per lead is.

So split every quote into fees, ad spend and GST. Work back from the leads you need. Start with one channel, and scale what pays.
