How to use the GST calculator

  1. Choose Add GST if your amount is before tax, or Remove GST if it already includes tax (like an MRP).
  2. Enter the amount and pick the GST rate.
  3. Choose within state for CGST + SGST, or other state for IGST.
  4. Copy the breakdown for your quote or invoice.

GST formulas

  • Adding GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Total = amount + GST.
  • Removing GST: price before GST = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). GST = total − price before GST.
  • Intra-state: CGST = SGST = GST ÷ 2.
  • Inter-state: IGST = full GST.

GST slabs under GST 2.0

40%Luxury and sin goods, such as tobacco products, aerated drinks and luxury cars

This table is a general guide. The exact rate for any product or service depends on its HSN or SAC code, so confirm it before you invoice.

Frequently asked questions

What are the GST rates in India now?

Under GST 2.0, effective 22 September 2025, the main slabs are 5% (merit rate) and 18% (standard rate), with 40% for luxury and sin goods. Special rates continue for some items, such as 3% on gold and silver and 0.25% on rough diamonds, and many essentials are exempt (0%).

How do I add GST to a price?

Multiply the price by the GST rate and add it. For ₹10,000 at 18%: GST = 10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹1,800, so the total is ₹11,800.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive amount?

Divide the amount by (100 + rate) and multiply by 100. For ₹11,800 including 18% GST: 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹10,000 before GST, so the GST is ₹1,800.

When do I charge CGST + SGST and when IGST?

When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state or union territory, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST). When they are in different states, the full amount is charged as IGST.

Is this tax advice?

No. This calculator does the maths for the rate you choose. The right rate depends on your item’s HSN or SAC code and your situation, so check with your CA or the GST portal for invoices and filings.
