ROAS & ad metrics calculator

How to use the ROAS calculator

  1. Enter your total ad spend for a period, like last month.
  2. Enter the revenue those ads brought in, from Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager or your store’s reports.
  3. Add your profit margin before ad costs to see break-even ROAS and real profit.
  4. Optionally add impressions, clicks and conversions for the full set of metrics.

The formulas

  • ROAS = revenue ÷ ad spend
  • Break-even ROAS = 1 ÷ profit margin
  • Profit after ads = revenue × margin − ad spend
  • CPA (cost per acquisition) = ad spend ÷ conversions
  • CPC (cost per click) = ad spend ÷ clicks
  • CTR (click-through rate) = clicks ÷ impressions × 100
  • CPM = ad spend ÷ impressions × 1,000
  • Conversion rate = conversions ÷ clicks × 100
  • ACoS (advertising cost of sale) = ad spend ÷ revenue × 100

How to improve ROAS

  • Fix the landing page first. A faster, clearer page lifts conversion rate without spending more on ads.
  • Cut wasted spend. Add negative keywords on Google and exclude audiences that never convert.
  • Raise order value. Bundles, combos and free-delivery thresholds increase revenue per conversion.
  • Track every lead. For lead businesses, record calls and WhatsApp enquiries so you can see which ads bring real customers.
  • Think in lifetime value. If customers buy again, a first-order ROAS just below break-even can still be profitable.

Frequently asked questions

What is ROAS?

ROAS (return on ad spend) is the revenue your ads brought in divided by what you spent on them. If ₹50,000 of ads produced ₹2,00,000 in sales, your ROAS is 4x.

What is a good ROAS?

There is no single good number. It depends on your profit margin. A business with a 25% margin needs at least 4x just to break even, while one with a 60% margin breaks even at about 1.7x. That is why this calculator shows break-even ROAS.

How is break-even ROAS calculated?

Break-even ROAS = 1 ÷ profit margin (as a decimal). With a 40% margin, break-even ROAS is 1 ÷ 0.40 = 2.5x. Below that, ads cost more than the profit they bring.

Should I include GST in ad spend?

If you are GST-registered and can claim input tax credit on your ad invoices, use spend without GST. If you can’t claim it back, tick the 18% GST option so the maths reflects your real cost.

What is the difference between ROAS and ROI?

ROAS only compares revenue to ad spend. ROI looks at profit after all costs, such as product cost, delivery, agency fees and staff time. A campaign can have a high ROAS and still lose money if margins are thin.
