How to Get Your Google Review Link (and Share It on WhatsApp, SMS, Email and Instagram)

How to get your Google review link and share it on WhatsApp, SMS, email and Instagram

Your customer says “Great service, I’ll leave you a review!” Then she goes home, searches your name, scrolls, can’t find the review button, and gives up.

That review was yours. You just made it too hard to give.

The fix is one link. Your Google review link opens the review box for your business in a single tap.

Here’s how to get it from Google, where to send it, and exactly what to say so people tap it, without breaking Google’s rules.

Quick answer: how do I get my Google review link?

Sign in to your Google Business Profile on a computer, select “Read reviews”, then “Get more reviews”, and click the copy icon. That’s your official review link. Paste it into WhatsApp, SMS, email, your bills or your Instagram bio.

  • Where: business.google.com → Read reviews → Get more reviews → copy icon
  • Who: you must be signed in to the Google Account that owns or manages the profile
  • Option missing? Check the account, your access, and that the profile is verified
  • Never offer a discount or gift for a review. Google treats it as fake engagement.

Here’s the thing: getting the link takes two minutes. Getting people to tap it is the real skill. That comes down to where you send it, when, and the exact words you use.

This guide covers:

  • How to get your link (and what to do if the option is missing)
  • Whether to shorten it
  • Sharing it on WhatsApp, SMS, email, invoices and Instagram
  • 6 copy-paste message templates in English, Hindi and Hinglish
  • When to ask, what Google bans, and how to track and reply

Printing a code for your counter? See our separate guide to the Google reviews QR code. This post is all about the link.

A Google review link is a web address that takes a customer straight to the box where they can rate and review your business on Google. Every Business Profile has one, and you copy it from the “Get more reviews” option in your profile.

What does it look like? Google doesn’t publish one fixed format, and different Google tools produce different-looking links. (Google’s Maps developer documentation, for example, shows a “write a review” link as a long google.com/maps address.) So don’t worry about the shape. Check two things:

  • It’s on a Google web address, not an unknown website.
  • It opens the review box for your business when you tap it on your phone.

Go to business.google.com on a computer, sign in with the account that manages your Business Profile, select “Read reviews”, then “Get more reviews”, and click the copy icon. The same pop-up also shows a QR code you can download.

  1. Open your Business Profile on a computer. Go to business.google.com. Google says you need to be signed in to the Google Account that’s linked to your Business Profile.
  2. Select “Read reviews”.
  3. Select “Get more reviews” (it has a share icon). Google’s March 2025 launch announcement called this “ask for reviews”, so your label may differ slightly.
  4. Click the copy icon. Your review link is copied.
  5. Save it where you’ll find it. A WhatsApp chat with yourself, your notes app, or a shared sheet for staff.

The pop-up also offers sharing by email, WhatsApp or a Facebook post. Now open the link on your phone to check it shows your review box.

Can you get your Google review link on your phone?

Google’s help page only gives computer steps. It says review QR codes “can only be generated on a computer browser, not on mobile devices,” and it doesn’t describe getting the review link in the Google Maps app.

So borrow a laptop once, copy the link and WhatsApp it to yourself. You won’t need to do it again.

No access to the profile? Use your Place ID

If an old agency or ex-employee holds your profile, you can build a review link from your Place ID, which Google describes as “a textual identifier that uniquely identifies a place.” Find it with Google’s free Place ID Finder and paste it into our generator (our QR code guide walks through the finder).

One warning: Google says place IDs “may change over time” and recommends refreshing ones older than 12 months. Test the link every few months, and switch to the official link once you have access.

Why can’t I see the “Get more reviews” option?

If “Get more reviews” is missing, you’re usually signed in to the wrong Google Account, you don’t have owner or manager access to the profile, or the profile isn’t verified yet. Fix whichever applies and the option should appear.

  1. Wrong Google account. The most common one. Many owners have a personal and a business Gmail. Check the profile picture at the top right and switch.
  2. No access. A profile can have owners and managers, and Google says managers can respond to reviews too. Ask whoever holds it to add you. If they don’t respond, Google’s ownership request gives the current owner 3 days to reply, after which you may be able to claim the profile.
  3. Not verified. Google says you can manage your business information once you’ve verified, and you must verify before you can reply to reviews. Stuck? Follow our Google Business Profile verification guide.
  4. Several profiles. Each branch is its own profile with its own reviews, so open the right one before copying. Google suggests its Business Profile Manager tool for managing profiles in bulk.

Duplicate listings, an agency holding your profile, branches nobody verified? Untangling that is everyday work for our local SEO team.

How to use our free Google review link generator (step by step)

Our free generator takes your review link (or Place ID) and gives you the link ready to copy, a QR code, a printable “review us” card and a ready-made WhatsApp / SMS message. It runs in your browser with no sign-up.

Five steps showing how to get your Google review link from Google Business Profile on a computer and share it with customers
  1. Pick how to start. Choose “I have my review link” if you copied it from Google, or “Use Place ID” if you can’t access the profile.
  2. Paste it. Into “Paste your Google review link”, or “Google Place ID”.
  3. Add card details. Fill in “Business name for the printable card” and the “Card headline”.
  4. Copy your link. Click “Copy”, then open it on your phone once to check it lands on your review box.
  5. Get print files. “Download QR” for bills and packaging; “Printable card” for your counter or reception.
  6. Grab the message. Edit the text in the “WhatsApp / SMS message” box (the templates below work well), then click “Copy message”.

What it can’t do: send messages for you, tell you who reviewed, or fix a profile you can’t access.

Usually, no. Google no longer lets you create custom short names for your profile, and third-party shorteners add a middleman that can shut down or get blocked in SMS. Use the link Google gives you, and a QR code on anything printed.

  • Google’s short names are closed. Its help page says: “You can no longer create or edit short names.” Existing ones still work but aren’t shown on profiles.
  • Shorteners can disappear. Google stopped new goo.gl links in 2018, and in August 2025 switched off goo.gl links that showed no activity in late 2024. Every bill and card carrying a dead link breaks.
  • SMS links must be whitelisted. From 1 October 2024, TRAI directed operators to block SMS carrying links the sender hasn’t whitelisted.

The best “short link” is no typing at all: a tap in a message, or a scan of a QR code.

For paper, use a QR code (our free QR code generator works for any link).

How do you share your Google review link with customers?

Share your Google review link wherever customers already talk to you: WhatsApp, SMS, email, invoices and Instagram. Google itself suggests receipts, thank-you emails and the end of a chat. Send it soon after the visit or delivery, and ask everyone the same way.

ChannelBest forWatch out for
WhatsAppClinics, salons, coaching centresOnly message people who opted in
SMSCustomers who rarely use WhatsAppBulk SMS needs DLT registration and whitelisted links
EmailD2C orders, B2B, CA and consulting firmsPut the ask near the top, not the footer
Invoice or billShops, restaurants, service businessesPrinted bills need a QR code, not a link
InstagramCafés, boutiques, D2C brandsNot every follower is a customer

Channel suggestions are ours; policy notes are from WhatsApp, TRAI and DLT documentation, October 2026.

On WhatsApp

  • Save it as a quick reply. In WhatsApp Business: Business tools → Quick replies → Add. Then type “/” in any chat to pull it up.
  • Send the link, not a QR image. Nobody can scan their own screen.
  • Follow WhatsApp’s rules. Its Business Policy says only contact people who gave you their number and opted in, and respect requests to stop.

Customer not saved in your contacts? Our WhatsApp link generator makes a click-to-chat link with your message pre-typed. Sending dozens a day? It may be time to automate review requests on WhatsApp (our guide to WhatsApp Business API cost in India covers pricing).

By SMS

One-to-one from your phone? Just paste the link. Sending in bulk through a provider is different: under TRAI’s DLT rules your business, sender header and templates must be registered, and links must be whitelisted or the SMS gets blocked. Ask your provider to whitelist your review link first.

In email signatures and thank-you emails

In Gmail on a computer: Settings → See all settings → “Signature”, add your text, then “Save Changes”. One line is enough: “Worked with us? Tell others how it went on Google” plus your link. In order or appointment emails, put the request near the top.

On your invoice or bill

PDF and emailed invoices can carry the clickable link. Printed bills need a QR code with a line like “How did we do? Review us on Google”. For standees, packaging and visiting cards, follow our Google reviews QR code guide.

On Instagram (bio and stories)

  • Bio: Instagram lets you add up to 5 websites to your profile. Add your review link titled “Review us on Google”.
  • Stories: Add your photo or video, open the sticker tool, choose the Link sticker, paste your review link and place it. Instagram says new accounts and accounts that repeatedly break its rules may not get the sticker.

Google review request messages you can copy (English, Hindi and Hinglish)

A good review request is short and personal: it thanks the customer, says why their review helps, and includes your link. Ask for their experience, not “5 stars”, and never mention a reward. Copy these and replace the brackets.

1. WhatsApp (English)

“Hi [Name], thank you for visiting [Business name] today. We’d love to know how it went. Could you share your experience on Google? It takes about a minute and helps other people find us: [review link]”

2. WhatsApp (Hindi)

“नमस्ते [नाम] जी, आज [बिज़नेस का नाम] आने के लिए धन्यवाद! आपका अनुभव कैसा रहा, क्या आप Google पर बताएँगे? बस एक मिनट लगेगा, और इससे दूसरे लोगों को हमें ढूँढने में मदद मिलती है: [review link]”

3. WhatsApp (Hinglish)

“Hi [Name] ji, aaj [Business name] aane ke liye thank you! Aapka experience kaisa raha? Google par ek chhota sa review likh dijiye, bas ek minute lagega: [review link]”

4. SMS (short)

“Thanks for choosing [Business name]! Tell us how we did on Google: [review link]”

5. Email (after an order or project)

Subject: How did we do, [Name]?
“Hi [Name], thank you for choosing [Business name]. If you have a minute, would you share your experience on Google? Your feedback helps us improve and helps other customers decide: [review link]. Thank you, [Your name]”

6. One gentle reminder (Hinglish)

“Hi [Name] ji, ek chhota sa reminder: time mile toh Google par apna feedback zaroor share kijiye: [review link]. Thank you!”

Send one reminder at most. More than that starts to feel like pressure.

And don’t tell customers what to write. Google’s policy prohibits “Merchants requesting that staff solicit reviews that include specific content.” Let them use their own words.

When is the best time to send your Google review link?

Send your review link soon after a good experience, while it’s fresh: the same day for appointments and dine-in, and shortly after delivery for online orders. Ask every customer at the same point in their journey, not only the ones who seem happy.

  • Clinics and salons: a WhatsApp message a few hours after the appointment.
  • Restaurants and cafés: with the bill, or a message that evening.
  • D2C brands: a day or two after delivery, once they’ve used the product.
  • Coaching centres: after a milestone like a test result, not on day one.
  • CA firms, agencies, contractors: when the job is signed off.

One rule comes straight from Google: merchants must not “require or pressure users to leave ratings or write reviews while on the premises.” A polite ask at the counter is fine. Hovering until they post is not. Sending the link to review later is the cleaner option.

What should you NOT do when asking for Google reviews?

Don’t offer incentives, don’t ask only happy customers (review gating), don’t buy or post fake reviews, and don’t ask staff or family to review you. Google’s policy prohibits all of these, and it can block new reviews, hide existing ones and warn customers on your profile.

From Google’s prohibited and restricted content policy:

  • Incentives. No incentives “such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services”. That includes cashback, lucky draws and “free dessert for a review”.
  • Review gating. Merchants must not “Discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers.” No “Happy? Google. Unhappy? Private form” flows.
  • Paid or fake reviews. No reviews “paid for, directly or in kind”, or posted from multiple accounts by one person.
  • Staff, family and partners. Google lists “current or former employment” and contractual relationships as conflicts of interest.
  • Staff quotas. No “Merchants requesting that staff solicit a certain number of reviews.”

Google’s restrictions page says that for fake engagement it may stop your profile getting new reviews for a set period, unpublish existing reviews for a set period, and show customers a warning that fake reviews were removed. Not worth a few stars, is it?

How do you track which customers left a review?

Turn on Google’s “Customer activity” notifications so you’re alerted to every new review, and keep a simple sheet of who you sent the link to and when. The review link itself doesn’t track clicks, so matching your sends to new reviews shows what’s working.

  • On a computer: open your Business Profile → More menu → Notifications → switch on “Customer activity”.
  • In the Google Maps app: tap Business (bottom right) → notifications icon (top right) → turn on “Customer activity”.

Example rows only. Reviewer names on Google won’t always match your records.

After a month, check which channel and message bring the most reviews. That’s your playbook.

How should you reply to Google reviews?

Reply with a short, polite, personal message: thank happy customers specifically, and answer unhappy ones calmly, admit real mistakes and invite them to contact you. Your profile must be verified to reply, and Google checks each reply before it goes live.

We cover the exact steps, plus one positive and one negative reply you can adapt, in our guide to the Google reviews QR code.

Reviews are one part of showing up on Google Maps. Categories, photos, your website and local pages matter too, and that’s the full picture our local SEO services cover.

Google review link: frequently asked questions

How do I get my Google review link?

Sign in to business.google.com on a computer with the account that manages your Business Profile. Select “Read reviews”, then “Get more reviews”, and click the copy icon.

How do I create a Google review link without access to my profile?

Find your Place ID with Google’s free Place ID Finder and paste it into a generator like ours using “Use Place ID”. Google says place IDs can change, so test the link regularly and switch to the official one once you have access.

How do I share my Google review link on WhatsApp?

Paste it into a short, personal message and send it soon after the visit or delivery. Save the message as a quick reply in WhatsApp Business so you can pull it up with “/”. Only message customers who opted in.

Can I get my Google review link on my phone?

Google’s help page only gives computer steps, and says review QR codes can only be generated in a computer browser. Copy the link once on a laptop and send it to yourself on WhatsApp.

Why can’t I see the “Get more reviews” button?

Usually you’re on the wrong Google Account, you don’t have owner or manager access, or the profile isn’t verified yet. Switch accounts, ask the owner to add you, or finish verification.

Can I make a short custom link for Google reviews?

Not through Google any more: its help page says you can no longer create short names. Third-party shorteners can break or be blocked in SMS, so use the original link and a QR code for print.

Do customers need a Gmail account to leave a review?

They need a Google Account, but Google says it can be created with a non-Gmail email address.

Can I offer a discount for a Google review?

No. Google’s policy prohibits payment, discounts, free goods or services for reviews. Google can remove those reviews, block new ones for a period and show a warning on your profile.

Sources and how we researched this

We researched this guide in October 2026. We followed Google’s current Business Profile Help pages for the review link, access, verification, notifications and replies, and read Google’s review policies line by line. For sharing, we checked WhatsApp’s and Instagram’s own help and policy pages and TRAI’s direction on links in SMS. We left out any link format, feature or number we couldn’t confirm from these sources.

The bottom line

Your Google review link turns “I’ll review you later” into a review today. Copy it once from your Business Profile, test it on your phone, and save it where your team can use it.

Then build the habit: send it to every customer, soon after the visit, with a short personal message. Same request for everyone. No rewards, no gating, no “5 stars please”.
