XML Sitemap Generator

Enter your website and the generator crawls it like a search engine, then builds a sitemap.xml with only the pages that should be indexed. Redirects, broken pages, noindex pages and canonicalised URLs are left out automatically, and you can see why each one was skipped.

How to create a sitemap

  1. Enter your homepage URL and choose how many pages to crawl.
  2. Click Generate sitemap. The tool follows your internal links like Googlebot.
  3. Check the Left out list. If an important page is there, fix the reason (for example a noindex tag or a broken link).
  4. Download sitemap.xml and upload it to the root of your website.
  5. Add a Sitemap: line with the file’s full URL to robots.txt and submit the sitemap in Google Search Console.

What a good sitemap looks like

  • Lists only canonical, indexable pages that return 200.
  • Uses the same URL format as your canonical tags (https, with or without www, trailing slash).
  • Stays under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB per file.
  • Is updated whenever pages are added or removed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an XML sitemap?

It’s strongly recommended. A sitemap helps search engines find all the pages you want indexed, especially new pages and pages with few internal links. Small sites with good internal linking can be found without one, but it costs nothing to have.

Which pages go into the sitemap?

Only final, indexable pages: they return 200, are not set to noindex, are not blocked by robots.txt and don’t point a canonical to another URL. Everything else is listed under Left out, with the reason.

Should I add priority and changefreq?

Google ignores both, so this generator leaves them out. It can add lastmod from each page’s modified date (the Last-Modified header, the article:modified_time tag or dateModified in schema); Google uses lastmod when it is consistently accurate.

I use WordPress. Do I need this?

Usually not. WordPress and SEO plugins such as Rank Math or Yoast create and update a sitemap automatically. This tool is handy for static or custom-built sites, or to compare against what your plugin outputs.

How many pages can it include?

Up to 500 pages while you keep the page open, or up to 1,000 pages as an email report (we crawl on our server and email you the link). For bigger sites, use your CMS or SEO plugin’s sitemap, which updates automatically as you publish.
