XML Sitemap Checker
Enter a website or sitemap URL. The tool finds the sitemap (from robots.txt or common locations), opens sitemap index files, lists every URL with its last-modified date, and can check that the URLs actually work. You can enter up to 10 websites or sitemap URLs at once.

How to check a sitemap
- Enter your domain, or the full sitemap URL if you know it.
- Click Check sitemap. The tool reads robots.txt, opens the sitemap index and each child sitemap.
- Review the issues list: http URLs, other domains, duplicates and files that failed to load.
- Click Check status of URLs to make sure the listed pages return 200 without redirects.
- Download the CSV for a full list of URLs, which is also handy for content audits.
A healthy sitemap checklist
- Listed in robots.txt and submitted in Google Search Console.
- Uses https URLs on the same domain as the sitemap.
- Contains only pages that return 200 and are not set to noindex.
- Uses the same URL version as your canonical tags (with or without www and trailing slash).
- Updates automatically when you publish or delete pages. SEO plugins do this for you.
Using the URL list
The URL export is a quick way to see everything your site tells Google about. Sort it in a spreadsheet to spot thin tag pages, old test pages or duplicate URLs, then decide what to improve, merge, redirect or remove. You can paste URLs straight into the bulk status checker too.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my sitemap?
Most sites list it in robots.txt with a Sitemap: line. WordPress sites with Rank Math or Yoast usually use /sitemap_index.xml, and WordPress’s built-in sitemap is /wp-sitemap.xml. This tool checks all of these for you.
What should a sitemap contain?
Only the URLs you want indexed: final, canonical, working (200) URLs. Leave out redirects, 404s, noindex pages, duplicates and URLs blocked by robots.txt.
How many URLs can one sitemap have?
Up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed per file. Bigger sites split their URLs across several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index.
Does lastmod matter?
Google says it uses lastmod when it is consistently and verifiably accurate, for example when it changes only when the page content really changes. Setting every date to today does not help.
How many files can this tool open?
Up to 20 entries and 80 sitemap files per run, and it checks the status of the first 1,000 URLs. For very large sites, test each sitemap file separately.
