How to use the schema generator
- Choose FAQ, Local business or Organization.
- Fill in the fields. Leave optional fields blank if you don’t have the details; they are removed from the code automatically.
- Copy the JSON-LD code and add it to the matching page on your website.
- Test it with Google’s Rich Results Test before you publish.
Which schema type should you use?
- FAQ: for a page that shows a list of questions with their answers. The questions and answers in the schema must also be visible on the page.
- Local business: for businesses customers visit or call in a specific area, such as clinics, salons, restaurants, shops, coaching centres or service providers. Pick the most specific type from the list, for example Dentist instead of LocalBusiness.
- Organization: for a company’s homepage or about page, especially online-only businesses without a public address.
Rules that keep schema safe
- Only mark up what visitors can see. Google treats hidden or invented details in schema as spam.
- Keep business details consistent. Use the same name, address and phone number everywhere: website, Google Business Profile and directories.
- Don’t add reviews you wrote yourself. Self-serving review stars for a LocalBusiness or Organization are not eligible for rich results.
- Use one main schema per page. A clinic’s contact page can carry its LocalBusiness schema; a blog post with an FAQ section can carry FAQPage.

Frequently asked questions
What is schema markup?
Schema markup is structured data, written in a shared vocabulary from Schema.org, that tells search engines exactly what a page is about: a business, its address and hours, a list of questions and answers, and so on. JSON-LD is the format Google recommends for adding it.
Will FAQ schema give me rich results on Google?
Probably not on its own. Since August 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results mainly for well-known government and health websites. FAQ schema is still valid and helps search engines and AI tools understand your Q&A content, but don’t expect the drop-down snippet for most business sites.
Where do I paste the code?
Paste it in the HTML of the page it describes, either in the <head> or the body. On WordPress you can use a Custom HTML block, your theme’s header settings, or your SEO plugin’s schema feature.
Does LocalBusiness schema replace a Google Business Profile?
No. Your Google Business Profile is what appears in Maps and the local pack. Schema on your website supports it. Make sure the name, address and phone in the schema match your profile exactly.
How do I check if my schema is correct?
Click Test on Google. It copies your code and opens Google’s Rich Results Test, where you can choose Code and paste it. The Schema Markup Validator at validator.schema.org is another free option.
